Community leaders and riders cheered as the deep blue vehicle with the large multi-toned golden S was presented at the 10th Street Plaza in Modesto.
“This is such an honor,” said Kenoyer, who teared up as the electronic signs on the bus flashed her name. “Years and years ago, I saw a need without knowing that I would have this opportunity…to do what is right for you,” the City of Modesto District 5 council member said of her passion to improve transportation in the region.
The lifelong resident of Modesto and retired nurse led the StanRTA board to approve the new brand “The S” and slogan “Ride the S” at its November 2021 board meeting. The S represents the combined services of Modesto Area Express (MAX) and Stanislaus Regional Transit (StaRT), which merged under the Authority last July 2021. Eventually, The S brand logo will be applied to all vehicles in the merged fleet (fixed-route, commuter, and Dial-A-Ride services) in addition to bus stop signs, driver uniforms, and all rider fare media and collateral. “The Jenny” will always be a little different with Kenoyer’s name and image placed just under the driver’s side window.
“There are many things Jenny has done for us historically,” said Philip McGuire, interim CEO of StanRTA, at the event. “We want to make sure her work is a legacy that goes forward and is always represented in our community.”
